Desiree Perez – Billboard’s Power 100

It probably came as no surprise when Roc Nation COO Desiree Perez came in at number 41 on Billboard’s 2019 Power 100. It’s not her first time featuring prominently on a list.

In late November 2017, she made a new list from Billboard, “Women in Music 2017: The Most Powerful Executives in the Industry.” Desiree Perez’s recognition is a bit belated as one of the massively influential women in the music industry. She has advanced her position among top music executives, record labels presidents, promotional managers, marketing department heads and other preeminent women who helped drive the success of prominent musicians for the last twenty-two years.

She is a centerpiece of management for Roc Nation where she oversees labeling activities and publishing, as well as routine operations, building marketing and artists promotion strategies. She also directs overall support in addition coordinating music tours. Desiree works alongside Roc Nation’s CEO Jay Brown and Founder Jay-Z, building campaigns for future releases.

Desiree is notoriously private but has a reputation as a fierce negotiator. Need proof? Just look at January 2017 Sprint’s $200 million investment in TIDAL. The deal was paid off in five months when JAY-Z released his 14th album, 4:44, as a Sprint-sponsored free download to one million people, earning the rapper a platinum plaque before the album’s official release. Perez also helped negotiating Beyoncé’s Formation stadium as well as played a strong part Rihanna’s deal with Samsung.

Insiders say that over the years, Desiree Perez is Jay’s right-hand woman at the negotiation table. As well as labeling operations, publishing and management at Roc Nation, Desiree is credited with the one-hundred-fifty million deal with concert-promotions giant Live Nation in 2008. One of the biggest music contracts ever awarded at the time.
