Glenn Beck Fails History Regarding George Soros

Glenn Beck, the prominent conservative radio host, has a lot to say about a lot of people. Lately, that person has been George Soros. It’s interesting Beck has chosen this figure. For example, did you know a birthday party for Soros was held in the summer of 2015? Here, Lord Mark Malloch Brown toasted to the health of Soros. Lord Brown confidently stated there were four people who helped defeat communism: Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and George Soros. That’s a pretty heady compliment. You would think Beck, a fervent American patriot, would have similar praises for Soros. He does not. Instead, he claims Soros is responsible for the collapse of governments through a global conspiracy Soros is able to maintain through vast wealth and investments.

Does Mr. Beck realize irony of his statement? If Soros truly is able to bring down governments, his track record shows they are the very governments Beck would presumably despise. If this is the case, why is Beck grumbling about Soros? It would seem he is attempting to level the charge that Soros is anti-Semetic. After all, it’s been reported that in Hungary, the homeland of George Soros Nazi, being called “omnipotent” and “able to bring down whole governments” is code on the far right for being anti-Semitic. That is the charge Beck seems to be leveling at Soros. The only problem with that accusation is that it doesn’t even pass the laugh test.

George Soros – Forbes

When Soros was 14, he lived in Nazi occupied Hungary. Soros acted as a messenger for the elders of the Budapest Jewish Council. He would deliver important information to the elders regarding various collection points around the city. Prompted by his father, Soros urged the Jews to resist. He recognized there was no way being docile and obedient would ultimately bring safety. But his advice fell on deaf ears. Soros once related the words of one of the elders. After repeating the fervent advice of his father to rebel and disobey, the Jewish elder said, “Tell your father that I am a law-abiding citizen, that I have always been a law-abiding citizen and that I am not going to start breaking the law now.” The sad result is few of those Jews who wished to remain law-abiding citizens survived the unfolding horrors in Hungary. Rather, it was the resourceful who bribed, hid, and deceived who were able to escape the nightmare.

How can Beck subtly claim such a man as Soros is anti-Semitic? Soros acted as an informant to aid the persecuted Jews, and he encouraged them to defy and rebel. Surely, had the Jews done so, Soros would have helped in any way he could. It’s tragic for Beck to be launching into a tirade about Soros when Beck clearly isn’t aware of Soros’s own history.

Beck is not an isolated voice in the wilderness. He is wealthy, and he has millions of devoted listeners. It is time for those listeners to have the record set straight. Let’s hope this message reaches them.
