More about Hannah's Heart
For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition that I made to him. Therefore I have lent him to the LORD. As long as he lives, he is lent to the LORD." ~ 1 Samuel 1:27-28
THE STORY BEHIND HANNAH'S HEART
Hannah's Heart is an adoption fundraising effort that sprang out of Morning Star Baptist Church. In August of 2005, just days before Hurricane Katrina hit, a group of single adults were meeting together for a fellowship and Bible study. The study was on the topic of biblical stewardship, and the singles present started brainstorming about ways to "be" God's hands and feet, ways to "invest" their physical talents and resources into everlasting, eternally-valuable projects.
As unmarried Christians, the singles at Morning Star have been learning how to thrive within the parameters God has sovereignly ordained for our lives, including the fact that we do not have spouses or therefore children of our own (at least, not yet). Because of this Bible study on the biblical use of our resources, we decided that there was no other investment that could yield a greater spiritual return than the investment of helping godly couples finance their adoptions.
The way we see it, the benefits of investing financially in a Christian adoption are two-fold: (1) You have the opportunity to help meet the felt needs of a child whose living circumstances would be less than ideal. Your investment goes toward helping a child who can use help right now with physical and emotional needs. James 1:27 is very clear that helping widows and orphans in their affliction is a mark of true Christianity. It is not a vague, impersonal well-wishing from afar. Helping the fatherless in their affliction is a tangible responsibility that brings immediate benefits to a child.
(2) You have the opportunity to help bring a child into a loving, Christian home. We do not typically think of adoption as a rescue effort on an eternal scale, but in many cases, that is true. There are many children whose lives would never intersect with a Gospel influence of the magnitude they would find in a Christian family. To help a Christian family adopt a child is to help bring that child into an environment that exposes him or her to the life-changing power of God's Word. It is not necessarily a guarantee that the child will trust Christ as Savior, but it increases the likelihood exponentially. We cannot buy and take things with us into eternity. But giving financially toward a Christian adoption is one way to use money as a tool toward investing in souls.
Hannah's Heart is just one division of Global Grace Missions, the rescue-relief and missions arm of Morning Star Baptist Church. We believe that adoption fits in beautifully with the aims and purposes for which Global Grace was started. We believe that bringing orphans into Christian homes is an investment both for now and for eternity. We also believe that Christians ought to be involved both corporately (as church families) and individually in adopting or aiding other Christians who are seeking to adopt. If you agree, please pray for Christian families who are seeking to adopt and have not been able to afford it. And please prayerfully consider a tax-deductible donation to support them financially.
Hannah's Heart is currently endeavoring to raise money to help other Christian adoptive families. If you would be interested in contributing a tax-deductible gift to a general fund for financing Christian adoptions, please email singlesinvest@gmail.com. You may also donate via PayPal. The account is sos@globalgracemissions.org. (Note: Due to some tech problems with Global Grace's PayPal profile, you may see wording for Katrina relief, but your gift to Global Grace will be designated for Corban.)
