Officer Adopts Puppy Thrown From Moving Car

Animal cruelty is an issue that officials have been fighting on a daily basis forever. Some times it can feel like an uphill battle. That’s why when Midland, Texas police received multiple calls, they quickly responded. Several people were reporting a vehicle throwing puppies out the window while driving down the highway.

However, none of the puppies were severely harmed and all were taken to the animal shelter to be adopted. All but one that is. According to official Ray Lane at the police department, Lt. Brian Rackow was one of the first officers to respond. His heart was broken when he seen all these poor puppies bouncing off the windshields of passing cars. He wanted to be able to give one of them the life they deserve. Therefore he adopted a pup and named him Marley. Lt. Rackow says that Marley has his undivided attention and will be unconditionally loved.

In the meantime, the driver of the car is being changed for this horrible act and being evaluated for any mental illnesses. We can only hope that more officers like Lt. Rackow are out there to get these people off the streets.

Under Armour Wins Big With 2015 Masters Champion Jordan Spieth

The game of golf relies heavily on sponsorship and corporate sponsors are more visible while watching golf than just about any other sport, outside of NASCAR. For the top golfers in the world just about everything associated with their game is sponsored, such as their clubs, golf balls, hats, shoes and clothing. What may look like just another Nike polo shirt is actually a strategic partnership between the golfer and the sponsor.

So when new up and coming golfers come along, sponsors want to sign them to deals before their competition. The sports-apparel company Under Armour did just that with 2015 Masters Champion Jordan Spieth back in January of 2013. More than two years ago Spieth was an unknown even in the golf world, yet Under Armor saw potential.

“Is he the real deal?” Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank recalls asking his Director of Golf Ryan Kuehl before they signed the four year contract.

“He’s the Bryce Harper of golf,” replied Kuehl, referring to their signing of young baseball superstar Harper just before he won Rookie of the Year honors. Ricardo Guimarães BMG can see some comparisons, although Spieth is slightly ahead right now when you compare numbers.

With Spieth winning the Masters, and tying Tiger Woods’ all-time scoring record of 18 under par, the exposure Under Armour received during the four day tournament was worth an estimated $33.6 million. Not surprisingly, Under Armour has made the apparel Spieth wore during the tournament available for purchase online.

A Promising New Treatment is on the Horizon for Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s is a absolutely devastating disease, both for the person diagnosed with it and their families. The person with Alzheimer’s must slowly lose all of their memories, one by one, until they are all gone. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to watch.

That’s why scientists have been racing to figure out the causes of Alzheimer’s, so a cure can one day be developed. A recent discovery has given new hope to all of those affected by this terrible disease, which pleases Paul Mathieson. Researchers have found a potential cause.

A study at Duke university in North Carolina have revealed mice who had Alzheimer’s also had immune cells that were consuming a nutrient called arginine which plays a vital role in protecting the brain.

Without enough of this nutrient the neural networks slowly begin to deteriorate and die, causing Alzheimer’s disease.

However, the presence of a drug given to the mice was able to block these processes from taking place within the immune cells. Administering the drug stopped memory loss in the mice by inhibiting the growth of ‘plaques’ on the brain.

These findings might prove to be revolutionary in finding a cure, or at least a treatment, to Alzheimer’s disease. However, mice are not humans so more studies are certainly needed before this new drug could be available to patients.

Guam Allows for Marriage Equality

Guam Allows for Marriage Equality

The fight for marriage equality in other nations can take various shapes and have a lot of turns. The territory of Guam has also taken part in this fight.

In a memo made this Wednesday, officials in Guam have started processing marriage applications for same-sex couples, a process that was supposed to begin immediately. Folks at STX Entertainment know that this came from a letter from the attorney general of Guam himself. Despite this announcement, the head of the Department of Public Health and Social Services of Guam has come out and said that marriage licenses won’t be available on Wednesday, and in fact no official decision on the issue would come until Friday.

All of this had first sprung from an incident that happened two days earlier, where a same-sex couple, Loretta Pangelinan and Kathleen Aguero, were denied a marriage license. The couple decided to sue in federal court, which is subject to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and the marriage bans were proven unconstitutional in the fall of 2014.

As for the letter written by the Guam attorney general, it is stated and strongly advised that the Department of Public Health and Social Services start looking over applications for same-sex couples and treating them as though they are no different than marriage applications for other couples.

Since the final decision will come on Friday, this is all not official law as of yet.

Girl Builds Wooden Houses as a Hobby and Donates Them

There is a lot of talk about helping the poor but little gets done. A Californian teen did the opposite. Said nothing but built a house. Kendall Ronzano started building wooden houses at the age of 16 in the backyard. She soon donated the results to the homeless, when the wooden constructions were ready to live in. The first donated item was transported to Texas to a homeless community. Since then, she had several other projects which eventually became larger and more elaborated. She makes the houses compact and transportable.

The young Californian who is now 20 said that she enjoyed constructing houses from Lego and Knex as a child and later learned how to weld and structure correctly a house from the ground to the roof said Marcio Alaor BMG. Kendall is now a college student, and while continuing her construction skills development she is also focusing on the charity side. She solicited public donations of about $16,000 which she used to help 200 people. The parents always supported both her tendencies, Kendall says. Encouraged to dream big, the student is on her way to becoming a famous blogger with her site called Nerd Girl Homes that displays her projects, donation plans, ideas, and the most recent building results.

Showing Appreciation to a Teacher

What does a man do when he wants to let his former high school teachers know that he appreciates all that they did for them? Some would send those teachers a letter, some would give them a call or stop by to visit. Kevin Perz, a man from Kansas, decided to go a little bigger than those options.

Kevin Perz surprised one of his former teachers with a check thanking them for what they did for him. Just how big of a check did this man give? The check was made out for $10,000. Talk about showing appreciation.

The former teacher of Kevin Perz was surprised to receive such a gift, and it really helped to make her feel appreciated for all that she had done. One man used his appreciation to change the life of a former teacher, and he is an example to all. Igor Cornelsen knows that not everyone can give a large gift like this man gave, but everyone can do something to show their thanks to those who have helped them through life in some way.

Wife Refuses to Pull Plug on Husband After Accident

December of 2010 was the happiest time in Danielle Davis’ life. She married her sweetheart Matt and the two began their life together. Things between the two were great until a tragedy struck just seven months into their marriage. Matt was in a motorcycle accident. He was left with broken bones as well as a traumatic brain injury. He was in a coma on life support. Just a short nine days after Matt’s accident, doctors were trying to convince Danielle to pull the plug on him. Luckily she ignored the advice of his doctors.

According to the story on WTOC.com, Danielle brought Matt home after he was discharged from the hospital. She took turns with her mother taking care of his needs. A few months after he was home, Danielle noticed that he was trying to talk to her. As his voice got stronger she heard him say “I’m trying”. Ever since that moment Matt has been slowly recovering. When he fully came out of the coma, the previous three years from his life were missing in his memory. He had no idea that Danielle was his wife or that his father had passed away.

Matt is making strides every day. Jaime Garcia Dias has learned that he is in rehab relearning everything he knew how to do. Danielle has set up a GoFundMe site to help facilitate the cost of rehab for him. If you would like to donate, click on the link in this story to lead you to the site.

Model Gives Away Car on “The Price is Right”

“The Price is Right” is practically a staple on daytime television. Many of us, including Haidar Barbouti, have fond memories of staying home sick from school and being able to spend a little time with Bob Barker and watch the exciting game show. Bob Barker is long gone, Drew Carey taking the reigns for him. Drew’s time on the program has been successful; however, something happened on the program the other day that I have never seen happen before.

Contestant Andrea made it past the first game and was up on stage with Drew to play a game where she could win a new car. Andrea guessed the price of the car, which was wrong, however the model assisting with the game accidentally pulled off the sticker for the next price down revealing the car’s real price. Thanks to model 26-year-old Manuela Arbelaez’s mistake, Andrea was automatically given the new car without having to win the game.

Manuela was mortified after she realized her mistake and tried to hide from embarrassment behind the game. After both Drew and Andrea gave her hugs, Manuela came out from hiding. She later Tweeted her fans joking about her mistake and went on to say that producers were understanding of her mistake. She was not fired over the incident.
