Alex and Josiah are two little boys who have been living in an orphanage in Liberia since December 2007. Alex is 4 years old, and Josiah is 2 years old (Alex's birthday is 6/2/04; Josiah's is 12/11/06). They are biological brothers, and they need a daddy and a mommy.
On July 18, 2008, at 5:05:01pm, the orphanage contacted Jeremy and Anouk Scott and asked them if they would be willing to be that daddy and mommy. For the Scotts, the answer was an immediate YES. On November 7, the Scotts received word from Liberia that the court decrees are finalized now, so the boys are legally theirs in Liberia. Only a few things have to be taken care of first, and then the Scotts might be able to fly to Africa to bring the boys home. Their prayer was to get them before Christmas, but it appears that God is working out an even better plan for His greatest glory and the Scotts' greatest good.
Jeremy and Anouk Scott have been involved as servant-leaders with Morning Star for a long while, but Jeremy was able to come on as official part-time staff in January 2008.
The Scotts married in June 2002 and relocated to minister for a few years in a church in Rhode Island. But their desire to return to Morning Star increased over time. En route back "home," they were able to serve as Morning Star's "missionaries" and on-site Global Grace representatives for five months after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hit the Gulf States (fall '05-winter '06). The Lord blessed their ministry in Louisiana, but the Scotts were thrilled when it was time to move back to Rockford and settle in with Morning Star again.
Throughout the past year and a half since their adoption journey officially began (June '07), both Jeremy and Anouk have continued to invest themselves sacrificially into their local church and community. Jeremy directs Morning Star's Kids 4 Truth and youth programs, heads up the multimedia/audio ministries, and contributes in countless other ways to the overall work of the leadership. He still holds his part-time position as an administrative assistant at Wesley Willows. Anticipating their boys' soon arrival, Anouk recently "retired" from her job in order to assist Jeremy in the ministry and to serve her family as a stay-at-home mom.
You can read their adoption journal, The Lord's Doing, to find out more about why the Scotts decided to adopt and how they got acquainted with their orphanage in Liberia, Acres of Hope.
The Scotts both have put a lot of work and savings into this and have seen God provide about $18,000 so far through these efforts and loved ones' generosity. They rejoice over what God has already done, but with anticipated flight costs and other fees, they expect to incur another $12,000.
Bringing orphans into Christian homes is an investment both for now and for eternity. Hannah's Heart exists to help adoptive families by raising awareness and facilitating donations. We consider this an ideal opportunity to invest in Alex's and Josiah's lives, both materially and spiritually. If you share our burden to help Alex and Josiah come home to their "forever family" in Rockford, Illinois, please pray for them and for the Scotts! And please prayerfully consider a tax-deductible donation (or sharing Frequent Flyer/airline miles) to help cover their remaining adoption and travel expenses.
Hannah's Heart was originally the brainchild and burden of the now-extinct single adults fellowship of Morning Star Baptist Church in Rockford, Illinois. It is yet another project-in-progress of Global Grace Missions, Morning Star's disaster relief and missions arm. Hannah's Heart has already helped facilitate donations for four other families. You can learn more about the beginnings and motives of Hannah's Heart here.Special thanks to our friend Shannon Brown and the YouBelong.net adoption journaling community.
